10 years Fraunhofer ENAS in Shanghai

The Chemnitz Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS celebrated the 10th anniversary of the opening of its representative office in Shanghai on Wednesday, the 5th September 2012. Professor Thomas Gessner, director of the Fraunhofer ENAS, has invited long-term partners in business, science and politics to Shanghai.

The new rector of the Chemnitz University of Technology, Professor Arnold van Zyl has followed the invitation. In his greeting he stressed particularly the International Research Training Group. The Chemnitz University cooperated since 2006 in addition to the Fraunhofer ENAS with Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in a joint program for PhD students. The Chemnitz University focuses on the interface between society and technology, said van Zyl. He declared, the he is proud that the university hosts the International Research Training Group and it is a privilege to have people there who find global solutions for global problems.

Han Xiaoding, the chief representative of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in China, congratulated Fraunhofer ENAS on its successful long-term cooperation in China and emphasized the topics of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft which are mobility, energy and environmental technologies. Thomas Schmidt, Member of Saxon State Parliament, forwarded congratulation of the Prime Minister of Saxony Stanislaw Tillich. Also representatives of various Chinese companies thanked for successful joint research projects in recent years. On the sidelines of the event, a research contract for 2.5 million Euros for the Fraunhofer ENAS was signed. Professor Gessner emphasized that the emerging Chinese economy offers great potential for research institutions to develop applications and innovations, especially for environmental and medical technology as well as logistics.

The representative office of the Fraunhofer ENAS in Shanghai was founded in 2002 and is based in the offices of the AHK delegation. The office maintains cooperation with Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, Tsinghua University in Beijing and Chongqing University as well as collaborations with various companies across the country.
