Microfluidics for Lab on Chip Systems

PODELA - Kostengünstige, mikrofluidische Point of Care Plattform zur Detektion Vektorübertragener Krankheiten Lateinamerikas

The main goal of this German-Mexican joint research project is the development of a Point-of-Care-Technology for the support of medical care in countries of Latin America and the BRICS countries with low healthcare infrastructure. The platform shall provide a differential diagnosis for multiple tropical diseases at in parallel. A first interesting application are vectorborne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and zika. Resulting of the genetic similarities of the arboviruses quick tests often produce false-negative results. Additionally the similar symptoms of the diseases also often lead to incorrect diagnosis, especially in countries that encounter all three diseases. In the project Fraunhofer ENAS develops a microfluidic platform that will integrate the multi-parameter sensor developed by the Mexican partners.
