At electronica 2026, we will present our R&D offerings in the following areas:
Fraunhofer ENAS develops sensors that are mainly based on scalable printing technologies on organic substrates. Biodegradable and inert materials like cellulose, wood, PHA, MnO2, Zn, Ag, Al, Si, Al2O3 are used for the printing of batteries, thin-film antennas, conductors, and housing and carrier components. Beeswax, linseed oil, and natural latex are used to seal the components against humidity and other environmental influences.
The Sensotriade is Fraunhofer ENAS's demonstration platform for navigation grade inertial MEMS sensor system development. It integrates the entire value chain: advanced MEMS and system design, simulation and fabrication, sensor packaging (with Fraunhofer IKTS), and testing. It showcases our ability to develop and deliver highly precise inertial measurement units for navigation and stabilization, advancing the state of the art in compact, high-accuracy inertial sensing.
Fraunhofer ENAS develops CMUT for a wide range of applications, also for operation in extreme environments (e.g. high temperature > 200 °C). In addition to custom CMUT designs, we also offer ready-to-use CMUTs and packaging solutions suitable for diverse application needs.
Customized PMUTs are available in short-term without the setup costs of a wafer run, even in small quantities, for research and development in new applications, especially for SMEs.
Built on a modular nanomaterial-based device platform and fabricated via wafer-level manufacturing, we showcase gas and biosensor arrays for healthcare and safety. The sensors deliver high speed and sensitivity, driven by the nanomaterial's vastly enlarged surface area. Key advantages include a low footprint, customizable functionalization for gaseous and liquid environments, advanced SoC integration (e.g., interposers), and suspended architectures for ultrafast sensing.
Discover our latest Parylene-based innovations utilizing the unique properties of the polymer: Using Parylene as a substrate, dielectric and encapsulation, an ultra-thin, highly flexible, optically transparent and biocompatible printed circuit board was realized with multiple redistribution layers. The PCB is only < 20 µm in thickness. Additionally, we demonstrate the first roll-to-roll Parylene coating system for a continuous biocompatible insulation of wires and fibers.
Near-field measurements using the NFS3000 allow precise detection of electric and magnetic fields with a resolution of a hundredth of a millimeter. These precise results can be employed for the characterization and discrimination of potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources in passive and active systems. Deriving near-field sources from measurements, far-field transformations as well as near-field interactions can be evaluated in subsequent field simulations.
